Success in Inter-School Debating Competition
We’re glad to report a major success in the inter-school debating competition held at Pristine Private School on 30th January. Our school debate team comprising Zoha, Riyad and Shahd Yasser (Year 12) overcame tough competition to end the day victorious.
TSPS vs. Cambridge International – highlighted the quality of the teams involved. Cambridge were well prepared, engaging and clear arguing that ‘Sustainability is an unattainable goal’. A challenging motion, however TSPS speakers wow’d the audience with their factual, balanced and meaningful arguments. Despite probing questioning from the Cambridge team, Sheffield won the round. Riyad was to be awarded ‘Best Speaker’ in this round.
TSPS vs. Pristine Private School – a rowdy home audience failed to influence the judges and, indeed, the TSPS debaters as they overcame an incredibly strong opposition. Zoha was awarded ‘Best Speaker’ in this round, however a special mention should go to Shahd who bamboozled the opposition with her precise and passionate questioning.
Ultimately, this was a victory for all schools in attendance. The day demonstrated just how necessary it is to debate key issues and how crucial it is to have the ability to be a strong public speaker.
Riyad, Zoha and Shahd ended the day as assets to the school, their (English!) teachers and themselves – now onto the next challenge!
